Studying how groundwater responds to the effects of climate and landscape change and how these perturbations propagate through aquifers impacting surface water ecosystems is an important focus of our faculty.
Environmental Chemistry
Studying the chemical processes that couple the lithosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere, and their impacts on human activities and the environment, is the focus of select EAPS faculty and students.
Soils and Sediments
The weathering and erosion of soils, and how these processes support and change life on Earth, is a key research theme for our environmental geoscience faculty.
Environmental Biogeochemistry
Environmental geoscience faculty and students conduct various experiments that help further the study of the chemical, physical, geological, and biological processes and reactions that govern the composition of the natural environment.

WABASH VALLEY (WTHI) - While we rarely feel a significant earthquake, we do have earthquakes here in the Wabash Valley. It's an important reminder for earthquake awareness month. "The Wabash Valley fault system is further to the Southwest of Indiana and in the border of Indiana and Illinois, but it extends to the north, northeast closer to Terre Haute and Lafayette," said Xiaotao Yang, professor at Purdue University.

University collaboration receives $6 million in funding for new CI workforce project

The NSF has awarded nearly $6 million to Purdue University, IU, and Mississippi State University to fund a collaborative program aimed at fortifying the cyberinfrastructure (CI) workforce within research communities. Matthew Huber, of Purdue EAPS and the Purdue Institute for a Sustainable Future, is a Co-PI on this project.
